At Mu Chapter, our academic standards are strictly enforced and encouraged. Mandatory and supervised study sessions at Foster Library, mandatory Clue sessions and Academic Social Probation are tools used to strictly enforce this standard at Mu Chapter. Our current Scholarship Chair Seth Tai enforces our scholarship policies and leads study table sessions. The University of Washington is a prestigious institution of higher learning and the Brothers of Mu Chapter are dedicated to continuing the scholastic merit which brought us to the UW.
Diversity is one of the qualities which set our Fraternity apart on the UW campus. Our scholastic diversity is one of our greatest strengths. The Brothers of Mu Chapter represent a great variety of majors including everything from Architecture, Business, Economics, Mechanical Engineering and Biochemical, Chemical and Political Sciences to Construction Management, English, Law Societies and Justice, Industrial Design, History and Philosophy. In addition our Brothers speak a wide variety of languages including Latin, Spanish, French, German, Swedish, Italian and Swahili. Whatever academic challenges we face, one can always look to his Brother for assistance and guidance.
Seventy percent of our current membership is devised of freshmen and sophomores at the University of Washington, a demographic which traditionally achieves a lower average GPA than upperclassmen. Despite this setback, our house GPA has constantly remained above a 3.0, and remained competitive with other Fraternities. We strive to help our underclassmen plan schedules and curriculums that will not overwhelm or discourage them and we endeavor to provide them with the tools and motivation they need to succeed.
Various scholarships are also now being offered to members of the Mu chapter. These scholarships are intended to not only aid new coming members but also graduate members of the chapter. These scholarsips consist of a grant-in scholarship for new and undergraduate members and also the Howard L. Kleinoeder scholarship intended for graduate students which can both be applied to by clicking the link here.
In the end, it is up to each Brother to be responsible for his own academic success. However, we strive to be an organization which excels in supplementing and awarding the efforts of our members. The Brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi are ready to be a great supplement to your educational experience here at the University of Washington.
